I began my career in the 1990s, working at a series of startups before transitioning more fully into the tech industry. Since 2003, I’ve had the opportunity to work as a talent sourcer, a specialized role within recruiting, for several respected U.S.-based technology companies. Over the years, I gained not only technical skills but also insight into the rapidly changing landscape of global work.
In 2008, I was asked to begin training colleagues overseas, starting with a team in mainland China. At the time, I didn’t fully grasp the broader implications of this shift. I simply focused on doing my job well and supporting my team. But looking back, I now see it as the beginning of a long-term change in how my work and the world functioned.
Even when I thought I had found stability in 2015 at a large global employer’s headquarters in Boston, I found myself once again leading an offshore team by 2017. In 2018, I was laid off. My next two roles, both with U.S.-based companies, also involved transferring knowledge to teams overseas. It became a pattern, and one I didn’t quite understand as it was happening.
Those experiences, though often challenging, taught me valuable lessons about adaptability, collaboration across cultures, and the complex realities of business strategy. At the same time, they brought a level of stress I didn’t fully acknowledge. Like many, I believed I could push through. I didn’t realize how much it was affecting me until much later.
Several years ago, my health took a serious turn. I was diagnosed with stage 4 bladder cancer and suffered the first of three strokes in 2021. I did my best to keep working, to stay productive and engaged, even as I went through treatment. Eventually, though, it became clear that I needed to step away.
What I didn’t expect was that stepping away would become a turning point. The time since leaving work has given me something I never made space for before. It has allowed me to focus fully on healing - not just from illness, but from years of unacknowledged stress and disconnection from my own needs. I have been able to explore what health really means, to understand my body in new ways, and to begin addressing the root causes of what went wrong.
This transformation is still unfolding. I don’t have all the answers, but I am learning every day. I’m deeply grateful to the doctors and healers who have supported me, to the friends and colleagues who offered encouragement, and to the many lessons that continue to teach me what it means to truly take care of myself.
I carry this journey with humility, and with a sense of awe for everything I didn’t know before. And while I never expected this path, I’m beginning to see it not as an end, but as a different kind of beginning.

The journey through cancer treatment has been complex, and what I’ve learned along the way is that healing requires more than just one approach. Working with both a conventional oncology team and a holistic oncologist has been one of the most important decisions in this journey. Conventional treatments like chemotherapy and immunotherapy are critical for targeting cancer directly, but they often come with side effects and challenges. This is where a holistic oncologist plays a pivotal role.
A naturopathic oncologist takes a whole-body approach, focusing not only on treating the cancer but also on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness. This approach is centered on strengthening the immune system, reducing growth factors that can fuel cancer, and supporting the body’s natural healing processes. Rather than just focusing on the disease itself, a holistic oncologist works to create an environment that makes it harder for cancer to thrive while improving overall health.
Their work is supported by regularly scheduled, comprehensive lab testing that tracks progress, identifies potential deficiencies, and monitors the body’s response to treatment. This helps ensure that every aspect of health is considered, from immune function to inflammation levels. One of the most important tools in this approach is the RGCC genetic test, which provides personalized insights and allows for a customized treatment and supplementation plan. (It's explained succinctly in this Instagram post.)
This plan strengthens the immune system, supports detoxification, and addresses any deficiencies, all of which enhance the body’s ability to heal in a more targeted, effective way.
The combination of conventional oncology and holistic support has provided me with the best potential outcome. It’s a balanced approach that integrates the precision of modern medicine with the wisdom of natural therapies, offering a more comprehensive path to recovery.
As I moved forward with these treatments, I also made lifestyle changes to further support my health. My diet shifted dramatically to a plant-based approach rich in whole foods, superfoods, and healing nutrients. Natural supplements were introduced, and I took proactive steps to remove toxic products from our home environment. Hydration became a priority, and I worked to increase my daily water intake to support overall wellness.
Meditation, energy work and mindfulness practices were adopted to help manage stress and cultivate patience, resilience, and a sense of calm amidst the challenges. With the guidance of my holistic oncologist and the insights gained from genetic testing, I felt empowered to take an active role in my health, understanding that healing is not just about treatment - it’s about supporting the body in every possible way.
This journey has shown me that healing is about creating an environment where the body can thrive. By addressing the root causes of illness, strengthening the immune system, and focusing on personalized, holistic care, I’ve been able to maximize my body’s natural healing potential.
Healing is rarely linear. It involves setbacks, discoveries, and constant adaptation. But with each step, I am filled with gratitude for the strength to keep moving forward and an unwavering belief in the power of transformation.
